Kigali, Rwanda – 7 October 2026 — The Rwanda Bar Association (RBA), in partnership with the Rwanda Internet Community and Technology Alliance (RICTA) and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), convened a stakeholder engagement meeting aimed at empowering law firms to strengthen their brands, protect their intellectual property and establish credible, secure and professional identities in the digital era.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Your Brand in the Digital Era: Intellectual Property and Online Identity for Law Firms,” the engagement brought together Law firms, to explore how law firms can strategically position themselves in an increasingly digital professional environment.
The meeting comes at a time when digital platforms are becoming an increasingly important gateway through which clients, institutions and the public discover and engage professional services. For law firms, having a strong digital presence is therefore no longer simply a communication or marketing tool, it is increasingly part of their professional identity, reputation and relationship with clients.
Digital transformation is now an imperative for the legal profession
In her opening remarks, the CEO of the Rwanda Bar Association, Ms. UMUHOZA Barbara, emphasized that digital transformation is no longer optional for legal practitioners. She stressed that law firms must embrace technology while ensuring that their digital presence reflects the same level of professionalism, integrity and trust expected from them in their legal practice.

“Digital transformation is no longer optional for the legal profession. A strong, secure and professional online presence, combined with effective Intellectual Property management, is increasingly critical to modern legal practice and the reputation of law firms.”
She noted that clients are increasingly using online platforms to search for legal services, verify professional information and assess the credibility of service providers. This makes the authenticity, security and professionalism of a law firm’s digital identity increasingly important.
A significant focus of the engagement was the protection and management of Intellectual Property (IP) in the digital environment.
Law firms invest in valuable intellectual assets, including firm names, logos, trademarks, websites, publications, legal content, databases and other digital materials. As their online presence grows, protecting these assets becomes essential to maintaining their identity, credibility and competitive advantage.
The engagement provided an opportunity for law firms to gain greater awareness of the importance of identifying, protecting and responsibly managing their intellectual property while complying with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks.

The meeting also explored the growing importance of establishing authentic and secure online identities for law firms.
In an environment where digital impersonation, fraudulent websites, cyber threats and misuse of professional information can undermine public trust, law firms need to take proactive measures to secure their digital presence.
Participants were encouraged to pay greater attention to their domain names, websites, professional profiles and other digital channels, ensuring that these platforms accurately represent their firms and provide clients with reliable information.
As an important part of Rwanda’s Internet ecosystem, RICTA manages the .RW country-code top-level domain , making its expertise particularly relevant to discussions around digital identity, online presence and Rwanda’s digital ecosystem.
The stakeholder engagement is also a direct product of the collaborative framework established through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Rwanda Bar Association and RICTA.
The partnership provides a platform for strengthening institutional capacity and promoting collaboration between the Rwanda Bar Association members and RICTA.
Through this collaboration, RBA seeks to ensure that legal practitioners are not only aware of the opportunities created by digital transformation but are also equipped to manage its associated risks.
A future-ready legal profession
The discussions reaffirmed the importance of preparing Rwanda’s legal profession for a future in which technology will continue to transform how legal services are delivered, accessed and experienced.
For law firms, investing in their digital identity is increasingly an investment in trust, visibility, credibility and long-term competitiveness.
The Rwanda Bar Association reaffirmed its commitment to working with strategic partners, including RICTA and RDB, to strengthen the digital capacity of the legal profession and ensure that law firms are well positioned to benefit from Rwanda’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
The engagement marked an important step towards building a legal profession that is digitally confident, professionally visible, secure and ready for the future.
